It will be a big few months for fans of Captain Marvel, with two major cinema releases on the horizon. This month sees the Black Adam spin off opening at cinemas, before the next film the Shazam series opens in early 2023.
Captain Marvel became the first superhero to appear on film when Adventures of Captain Marvel was released in 1941. The serial beat Superman to the screen by six months. Despite both the popularity of the serial, and of the character himself, Captain Marvel disappeared from all mediums for several decades following a lawsuit citing similarities between the character and Superman. When Captain Marvel made his return years later, it was under the banner of his magic word ‘Shazam!’
